The mayor and local press watch as the foundation stone is placed during the construction of the youth hostal in Holland Park House in 1958.
Sadly the YHA was threatened with closure earlier this year after 56 years of service but seems to still be running.
This is such a great blog! I came here by Google image searching for Holland House and didn’t recognise these amongst the usual shots and drawings. During the years since it was bombed (1940) Holland House had lain derelict. Holland Park had been one big private garden until then. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/old-new-london/vol5/pp161-177 has greater detail than the Wikipedia article. I’m aware there are a good number of articles in County Life from this period. I expect one of the gentlemen in the photos is Hugh Casson.
