Shepherd’s Bush in the snow

In another rare colour image from the archive, workmen are seen throwing sand to the snow covered carriageway of Richmond Way in Shepherd’s Bush, just a few metres to the south of Shepherd’s Bush Green.

Uncertain of the date but I will guess 1961-1963ish.

Looking south down the street the Duke of Edinburgh pub is to the left hand side. This pub closed a few years ago.

Queen Caroline Street, Hammersmith

Another few photos of the Hammersmith gyratory system, this specifically being Queen Caroline Street looking south toward the Gaumont Palace (Hammersmith Odeon).

The majority of the buildings to the left including the old Post Office had been razed to make way for the redevelopments over the years although the red bricked building to the far left is still there as seen in the google street view screen grabs.

The flyover was built in 1961, a year or so after this picture was taken.

Shortly after the 1958 Notting Hill race riots, Mosley briefly returned to Britain to stand in the 1959 general election at Kensington North. Mosley led his campaign stridently on an anti-immigration platform, calling for forced repatriation of Caribbean immigrants as well as a prohibition upon mixed marriages. Mosley’s final share of the vote was 8.1%

Two years later when working for the Daily Mirror, Alisdair caught another more satisfyingly positioned image of Oswald.

Crowds gather at the Albert Memorial beside the Albert Hall before beginning a long march to the Aldermaston in protest against the Atomic Weapons Establishment.
There were a series of marches from the mid 1950’s to mid 1960’s.

Snowy seagulls by the Thames 1966

A small flock of seagulls rest along the north side of the Thames opposite a fully operational Battersea Power Station.
