1958 protests in Portobello Road

Crowds (and police) gather to hear speakers urge the people of Portobello Road to resist the 1957 Rent Act.

This is on the corner with Blenheim Crescent which has seen little major change to the buildings between then and now.

Cleaning Graffiti off the Doors

Boys help clean off the remains of swastikas daubed on the doors of a synagogue in Kensington Park Road.

A cutting stuck to the back of a contact print named the road and unfortunate circumstances behind the image while the unique decoration to the building meant it was easy to locate the building as today. The block is now home to a gym call The Library

Church Street Notting Hill Gate

Church Street

This was clearly Church Street (street sign on left) but after using streetview to travel the entire street to no sign of any matching building I enlarged a shop sign on the right that read 202. This meant it was right on the corner of Notting Hill Gate. This whole area was demolished and re-developed during the 1960’s and it seemed a shame to not have an exact location but then I noticed that as in other photos from the time the Notting Hill Gate Barclays Bank building is noticeable in the background. Only just with another recognisable and still present building adjacent.
