Selfridges Fire

A fire is fought in the area around Selfridges.

I’m not sure if this was in the warehouse behindĀ the store or if just nearby. The negative strips are just labelled “Selfridges Fire”. There does seem to be some building work going on in the background.

Shepherd’s Bush Fire

Crowds look on asĀ fire officers look over the remains of a shop destroyed on the corner of Shepherd’s Bush Green and Shepherd’s Bush Gardens.

The road featured in the picture (Shepherd’s Bush Gardens) was destroyed to make way for the West 12 Shopping Centre during the 1960’s. The location of the lost street was revealed by the appearance of the Shepherd’s Bush Green war memorial in the back of the wider crowd shot.

Tyre shop fire Kingston-upon-Thames 1962

A fire rages in a tyre store at 65 Cambridge Road, Kingston-upon-Thames as spectators stand close watching.

The location is now part of the Cambridge Estate or at least the road names have been retained during the redevelopement during the 1960s.

January 13th 1962.

This was a dramatic set of images and I know how excited my dad would have been to have got home and developed these.
